  6. This document contains important information that is not included in 
  7. HyperGuide or in online Help.

  10. Using Notepad to View This Document
  11.  
  12. If you enlarge the Notepad Window to its maximum size, this document 
  13. will be easier to read. To do so, click the Maximize button in the 
  14. upper-right corner of the window. Or open the Control menu in the 
  15. upper-left corner of the Notepad window (press ALT+SPACEBAR), and 
  16. then choose the Maximize command.
  17.  
  18. To move through the document, press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN or click the 
  19. arrows at the top and bottom of the scroll bar along the right side 
  20. of the Notepad window.

  22. To print the document, choose the Print command from the File menu.

  43. Drivers and Microsoft Multimedia Pack 1.0
  44. =========================================
  45.  
  46. Accompanying the Microsoft (R) Multimedia Pack version 1.0 product are
  47. certain display and audio driver software programs created by the
  48. manufacturers of such hardware. Please note that these third-party driver
  49. programs are not part of the Microsoft (R) Multimedia Pack product.
  50. Microsoft makes no warranties or claims regarding the quality, stability or
  51. performance characteristics of the driver programs, which are included AS
  52. IS WITHOUT WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE WARRANTY OF MERCHANTIBILITY. The 
  53. included driver programs are the latest releases available to Microsoft, 
  54. and are included for your convenience only. Should you experience any 
  55. difficulties with the driver programs, please contact the
  56. manufacturer of the display or audio device you are using with your
  57. computer system to inquire about obtaining a more recent version.

  59. The \DRIVERS directory of the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM contains the
  60. latest releases of device drivers for the following laserdisc player 
  61. and audio cards:

  77. To install a driver for an audio device or for the laserdisc player:
  78.  
  79.     1. Insert the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM in the appropriate disc 
  80.        drive.
  81.  
  82.     2. From the Control Panel, select the Drivers icon.
  83.  
  84.     3. Choose Add.
  85.        The Add dialog box appears.
  86.  
  87.     4. From the list of driver choices, select "Unlisted or 
  88.        Updated Driver."
  89.  
  90.     5. Choose OK.
  91.        The Install Driver dialog box appears.
  92.  
  93.     6. Identify the CD-ROM drive containing Multimedia Pack disc.
  94.  
  95.     7. Choose OK.
  96.        The Add Unlisted or Updated Drivers dialog box appears.
  97.  
  98.     8. Select the driver you want to install.
  99.     
  100.     9. Choose OK.
  101.  
  102.     10. If your driver requires additional configuration information, 
  103.         choose the appropriate settings.
  104.  
  105.     11. Choose OK.  You'll also need to restart Windows to use the 
  106.         newly-installed driver.
  107.         
  108. The Multimedia Pack CD-ROM also contains the following display drivers:
  109.  
  110.     S3 640x480 32K colors
  111.     VGA 320x200 256 colors
  112.     VGA 640x480 16 shades of gray
  113.     VGA 640x480 16 palettized colors
  114.  
  115. To install a display driver:
  116.  
  117.     1. Start the Windows Setup application.
  118.  
  119.     2. From the Options menu, choose the Change System Settings
  120.        command. The Change System Settings dialog box appears.
  121.  
  122.     3. From the list of displays, select "Other display (requires disk
  123.        from OEM)."
  124.  
  125.     4. Identify the CD-ROM drive containing Multimedia Pack disc.
  126.  
  127.     5. Choose OK.
  128.        The list of display drivers appears.
  129.  
  130.     6. Select the driver you want to install.
  131.  
  132.     7. Choose OK.
  133.  
  134.     8. Choose OK again.    
  135.  
  136.     9. Follow any additional instructions from the Setup application.
  137.  
  138. The device-independent portion of the Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions
  139. (MSCDEX.EXE) is also included in the \DRIVERS directory of the
  140. Multimedia Pack. If the version of MSCDEX.EXE you are using is less than
  141. 2.11, replace this file on your multimedia PC with the version on the
  142. Multimedia Pack CD-ROM.

  145. Video for Windows 1.0 Runtime Notes
  146. ===================================
  147.  
  148. This release of the Video for Windows playback driver does not work with
  149. the Notebook accessory that accompanies Windows for Pen Computing.
  150.  
  151. Current 16-bit color drivers may have performance problems because they
  152. do not yet directly support 16-bit device-independent bitmaps (DIBs) and
  153. must translate images from a 24-bit color depth.
  154.  
  155. If you experience problems playing videos on a Media Vision audio board,
  156. you should contact their technical support department at 1-800-638-2807 to
  157. get an updated driver.
  158.  
  159. You may see a "profiling display" message after you install or after 
  160. changing the display driver. This is normal. The system is determining 
  161. the fastest method to talk to your display driver.
  162.  
  163.  
  164. ScreenCraze Notes
  165. =================
  166.  
  167. ScreenCraze is an animated screen saver application copyrighted in 1991 by
  168. Gold Disk Inc. Information about running the version of ScreenCraze
  169. included in the Multimedia Pack is included in the README.TXT file located
  170. in the \SCRNCRZE\S directory of the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM. If you
  171. require technical support for ScreenCraze, call Gold Disk technical support
  172. at (416) 602-5292.

  175. the \SCRNCRZE\S directory of the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM.

  178. Sample Media File Notes
  179. =======================
  180.  
  181. The sample media files included on the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM are
  182. licensed for personal use. You can use the animation, digital-audio, and
  183. MIDI files included on the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM in your presentations,
  184. spreadsheets, and other documents.
  185.  
  186. The Multimedia Pack CD-ROM also includes sample video clips in the
  187. following directories:
  188.  
  189.     \SAMPLES\VIDEO\MISC
  190.     \SAMPLES\VIDEO\FUNSTUFF
  191.  
  192. The following video clips are stored in the \SAMPLES\VIDEO\MISC
  193. directory. You can use these video clips in your presentations, 
  194. spreadsheets, and other documents:

  219. Final Notes
  220. ===========

  222. HyperGuide Documents Windows 3.1
  223. --------------------------------
  224. The version of HyperGuide included in the Multimedia Pack documents
  225. Windows 3.1. The README.WRI files of both Windows 3.1 and Windows
  226. for Workgroups refer to a version of HyperGuide that shipped with the
  227. Multimedia Extensions for Windows 3.0.
  228.  
  229. Installing Drivers
  230. ------------------
  231. If you experience difficulties installing the display drivers on the 
  232. Multimedia Pack CD-ROM, delete or rename any OEM*.INF files in the Windows
  233. SYSTEM directory (normally \WINDOWS\SYSTEM) before setting up the
  234. drivers from the Multimedia Pack CD-ROM. The OEM*.INF files probably
  235. remain from an installation from another disk.
  236.  
  237. Note:  Do not remove the file SETUP.INF.
  238.  
  239. VidTest Data Streaming Performance Test
  240. ---------------------------------------
  241. When specifying the Requested Transfer Rate, enter the value either as
  242. kilobytes such as 50k or as a multiple of 1024 such as 51200.
  243.  
  244. Running Multimedia Tour Without a Mouse
  245. ---------------------------------------
  246. The Multimedia Tour application requires a mouse. Do not run the
  247. Multimedia Tour on systems that don't have a mouse installed.
  248.  
  249. Memory Usage of the Multimedia Tour
  250. -----------------------------------
  251. The Multimedia Tour consumes memory when it is run. If the system
  252. memory resources (RAM) become exhausted while the Multimedia Tour is
  253. running, close the Multimedia Tour to free system memory.
  254.  
  255. Running MMTour with an External MIDI Synthesizer
  256. ------------------------------------------------
  257. The Multimedia Tour includes sample files of several types, including MIDI,
  258. digitized sound (waveform), and CD-audio. If the MIDI samples of the
  259. Multimedia Tour do not play with your external MIDI synthesizer, please use
  260. the MIDI Mapper icon in the Control Pannel to map channels 13 through 16
  261. to your internal MIDI synthesizer.

  263. Running Multimedia Tour in Windows Standard Mode
  264. ------------------------------------------------
  265. You might experience the loss of sound if you run the Multimedia Tour with
  266. Windows running in standard mode. If sound stops working in Windows after
  267. running the Multimedia Tour while Windows is in standard mode, restart
  268. Windows to regain sound.
  269.  
  270. Device Drivers
  271. --------------
  272. If you experience problems with any of the driver programs, please contact
  273. the device manufacturer to get an updated driver.
  274.  
  275. Running Windows Setup and the MCGA Display Driver
  276. -------------------------------------------------
  277. If you install the MCGA display driver and later replace it with another
  278. display driver using Windows SETUP (started from within WIndows--not MS-
  279. DOS), you'll need to manually remove the following entries from the
  280. [FONTS] section of WIN.INI:
  281.  
  282. MS Sans Serif 5  (320x200 bold low res)=LRHELVB.FON
  283. MS Sans Serif 5  (320x200 low res)=LRHELV.FON
  284.  
  285. Subsequent Windows Installations
  286. --------------------------------
  287. If you install another version of Windows, such as Windows for Workgroups,
  288. onto your PC after installing the Multimedia Pack, the new installation of
  289. Windows will overwrite some of the help files associated with Multimedia
  290. Pack applications. You should re-install the Multimedia Pack to maintain
  291. consistency between the applications and their associated help files.
